Life keeps getting better for the young Yankees fan who melted the hearts of many inside the Rogers Centre.
One night after being gifted an Aaron Judge home run ball by generous elder Blue Jays fan Mike Lanzillotta during an MLB game in Toronto on Tuesday, nine-year-old Derek Rodriguez scored an on-field meet-and-greet with his hero on Wednesday.
Lanzillotta was also part of the special meeting. He was given Judge’s batting gloves for his generosity and the two fans have reportedly been invited to New York for a future game.
The youngster’s tears-of-joy moment in the stands on Tuesday quickly went viral for its wholesome positivity — and Judge’s willingness to say hello to the youngster brought more tears to the eyes of the baseball fan.
“Tonight, Derek got to meet his favourite player,” the Yankees tweeted along with footage of the youngster and the Bronx Bombers superstar sharing a chat and a hug.
The Blue Jays tweeted a photo of young Rodriguez and his other hero, Lanzillotta, displaying the special ball ahead of Wednesday’s series finale down at the dome.
