With the weather perking up, many Brits will be looking to give their garden an overhaul in preparation for a BBQ or two.

But of course, like any home renovation, it can cost a fair bit.

One woman looking to keep the costs down is Emily, who was in desperate need of some new paving slabs.

Over time, they can become dirty and the colour can fade, making them look like they’ve seen better days…

But there are a few ways you can get them looking as good as new without bringing in the professionals – like painting the slabs as Emily did.

She shared the transformation in a video on her TikTok @em1998x, which has since been viewed more than 560,000 times.

After giving the grubby slabs a good old clean, she painted them a dove grey colour – giving the patio a modern upgrade.

In a pinned comment on the video, Emily added: “We know it’s not going to last long term but we love it for now – we can always touch up or get new slabs in future.”

She also revealed she’d used the Exterior masonry paint from Wilko for the job, which cost £16 for five litres.

Since being posted, Emily’s video has racked up more than 9,500 likes and hundreds of comments from people who were impressed by the final result.

One person said: “I’m gonna copy you – it looks amazing.”

Another wrote: “Looks mint, even if it flakes after a year just smooth it back and re paint, well worth the effort.”

A third commented: “Omg Em love them!!”

Someone else said: “No way are they the same slabs they look really good. I’m going to try mine.”

But a few people who claim to have tried it for themselves in the past, said they didn’t have much luck with it staying put.

“I done this last year and used sealer but unfortunately most of it has flaked off,” one person wrote.

“Hopefully yours lasts longer.”

“It’s great,” another added. “We did ours but unfortunately doesn’t last all comes off after a few months.”
