It’s nice to have neighbours – for instance when you need to borrow some milk or need a package taken in when you’re not at home.
But when you have an issue with them that you can’t resolve, it can be a bit of a nightmare.
We’ve recently heard how one woman has had issues with her neighbour coming in her garden without permission and another who claims her next-door neighbour’s trampoline was killing her happiness.
And now another woman has shared how her neighbour’s new hot tub is messing with her mental health as she claims it makes a constant “hum” that means she can no longer sit in her house in “peace” and quiet.

Writing in a post on Mumsnet, the anonymous woman explained her situation, saying: “Next door have decided to get a permanent hot tub installed on their deck a couple of weeks ago and since then I can hear a none stop hum within my house 24/7.
“The fence got taken down to put it in, it still hasn’t been put back up so I’ve had no privacy, they’ve also been using the hot tub during this time with no fence which I’ve found really awkward when putting washing out.
“The low frequency hum drives me mental, I tried to approach next door and got told it wasn’t their hot tub making the noise and told they refused to do anything about this. Am I being unreasonable to expect a resolution to this and not have to sit in my house listening to it humming all day.
“Would the local authority do anything? I’ve read up and believe the deck is acting like a drum and resonating in my house. It’s not actually loud outside but in my house it’s a constant low drone that is awful. I can no longer sit in my house in peace, I have to turn the TV up to drown it out and take tablets on a night to sleep or try to mask it.”
In the comments she continued to explain: “I invited the person round they were shouting and screaming and said there was no noise. I offered to pay for a matt, I was told they wouldn’t even look at it for six months as it cost “£500” to drain their tub.
“It’s absolutely awful a none stop hum/drone akin to tinnitus. They don’t seem willing to do anything about it.”
More than 100 people responded to the woman’s post sharing sympathy, with some encouraging her to move.
One person said: “This is awful. Truly. But I don’t think you can do anything. I think you need to come to terms with it. Is moving an option? I know that’s drastic! Or could you ask the neighbours to come and hear how loud it is? Local authority would only act if it’s above a certain decibel and I very much doubt it would be although very annoying.”
Another replied: “I can’t believe people still have hot tubs that stay on 24/7! So bad for the planet and such a kick in the teeth for those of us struggling with high energy prices and make every tiny saving we can.”
A third added: “You can either be passive and suffer or active and suffer. If it’s the former we all feel for your situation.
“If it’s the latter, isn’t it about the time you were planning on buying a bbq? And the only place for it is where the fence is missing?”
