There is no one-size-fits-all parenting style – what works for one family might not work for another.

21-year-old mum-of-one, Corrie, divided opinions online when she shared how she parents her toddler.

She posted a video on her TikTok @c.maxxy listing the three rules she says make other people upset – and it’s since gone viral with more than 1.2 million views.

“My son doesn’t have alone time with anyone that doesn’t respect our rules and boundaries including our parents,” she begins.

“I consider my son sugar-free. I give him sugar because I can limit the amount he has, but as a general rule, no one else is allowed to give him sugar.”

“He never has to share anything,” she continues, explaining that if he takes a toy to his grandparents’ house, he does not have to share it with his cousins.

The same rule applies when he’s in the playground, she says.

“Consent is a big thing,” she continued.

“It’s not like people can’t hug and kiss my son, but ask him first. He knows the difference between yes and no.”

Corrie says she always asks her son for consent, even before she changes his nappies.

And the last rule is that she limits how long he spends using technology.

She says: “We limit screen time. He’s a year old, he doesn’t need to be watching TV all day.”

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 180,000 likes and 2,000 comments – but not everyone agreed with Corrie’s parenting style.

One person said: “Why bring a toy that his cousins can’t play with?”

Another wrote: “Tell me he’s your first without telling me.”

A third commented: “I just can’t…”

But someone else said: “Why is everyone assuming she isn’t teaching him how to share? Of course she is. She just isn’t forcing him to and if there’s an issue she’ll deal with it.”

Another person revealed: “This is how I wanna parent.”

“My son’s 6 & I’ve never made him share his stuff,” admitted one mum. “He has to share mutual toys or playground equipment but if it’s his, he gets the say on it.”
