Mum ‘fed up’ with neighbours who keep feeding birds – as one poos on her baby

A mum has been left furious with her neighbours as they keep throwing food out into their garden for birds to eat – resulting in one bird pooing on the woman’s baby

An anonymous woman has become “fed up” with her neighbours because of their decision to continually feed birds that come into their garden – as one of the feathered animals pooed on her baby.

The mum posted on Mumsnet to ask if she was wrong to be frustrated with her neighbours over the incident, as their decision to feed the birds has meant that more are attracted to their garden, and as a result, the chances of some bird poo landing on the mum’s baby is higher.

In her post, she wrote: “[My] neighbour [is] constantly throwing food out to [the] birds and now one s**t on my baby. A bird, not a neighbour for the last part.

“Am I being unreasonable here? My neighbour constantly throws food out to the birds and anything goes. I’m fed up with it.”

Commenters on the post were quick to point out that bird poo can, unfortunately, strike at any time, and wasn’t necessarily a direct result of the mum’s neighbour deciding to attract birds to their garden.

One person said: “Nothing wrong with feeding the birds. Birds also s**t at random, it could have happened anywhere.”

While another added: “Any help we can give wildlife is good. Give your baby a wash and move on.”

And a third wrote: “The bird could have s**t on your baby irrespective of the neighbour feeding it.”

But others said a bigger concern for them would be the other animals that food left on the ground can attract, such as rats and mice that can pose bigger problems than birds.

Someone wrote: “I’d be more concerned about mice and rats to be honest.”

As someone else said: “I’ve been s**t on several times before by birds, that’s just unfortunately what they sometimes do. I don’t like people just leaving food out on the ground though, that will attract mice and rats.”

The mum later took to the comments to state that the birds her neighbour feeds are mostly seagulls, and that she has spoken to her neighbour about the incident.

She said: “It’s seagulls mostly. A huge flock of them on this occasion. I did tell my neighbour and they apologised but didn’t look impressed when I told them to stop feeding them.

“I can’t see how it’s unreasonable to expect neighbour not to throw out uneaten dinner for birds. It’s disgusting.”
