Court documents allege a three-year-old girl was tortured and killed during a twelve hour exorcism in her grandfather’s San Jose, Calif., church last September reports the New York Post.
The documents, obtained by KRON, say Arely Hernandez was found dead on the church floor with “multiple injuries around her eyes, face, neck and chest.”
Her cause of death was asphyxia due to suffocation and smothering.
Deputy District Attorney Rebekah Wise wrote Arely was with her mom, uncle and grandfather who “believed the child was possessed by a demon.”
Police documents obtained The Daily Beast say the child’s El Salvador-born mom, Claudia Elisa Hernandez, 25, felt her daughter was “possessed by an evil spirit” after the child woke up woken up screaming.
Authorities says Claudia and her brother brought Arely to the church, where their father was a pastor, at 6:30 a.m. and subsequently pinned her down and stuck their fingers down her throat to make her vomit in an effort to “help her get the spirit out.”
The report said: “Eventually, the victim vomited a clear/purple liquid.”
Police say her mother “believed the victim died sometime between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.” and the family did not dial 911 until 8:12 p.m., and “no lifesaving measures were performed.”
The mother alone was charged in February with felony assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury but the case only came to light this week KRON got ahold of the court documents
In a strange twist, just six days before she was charged, Hernandez posted a nearly 45-minute YouTube video to the channel under the name Elisaa Santos about her dead daughter while smiling and defending herself.
“A lot of people turned on me after my daughter passed away,” she said in the video.
“I don’t worry too much about that because God knows the truth, and the truth always comes out.”
