Kevin Ford, the Burger King employee from Nevada who never missed a day of work in 27 years, took a few days off to have an emotional family reunion.
The fast-food worker reunited with his daughter and three grandchildren on the Today show on Tuesday. It was the first time he’s seen them in four years.
“I haven’t seen them. I haven’t touched my grandchildren or anything,” Ford said, as he tearfully hugged them.
Ford’s daughter Seryna, who started the GoFundMe campaign for her dad that has climbed to more than $248,000, said the reunion is “a lot to take in” but “it means a lot to us.”
Of the GoFundMe, she said, “I didn’t have high expectations when I posted it, honestly.”
She added: “My dad deserves the world to me, in my opinion. My dad gave me the world. My dad made me the person that I am. I love my dad more than I can ever put into words.”
Last week, a video of Ford showing off the gifts he received from his manager in honour of his 27th year of service went viral, with many commenting that he deserved more than some candy, a movie ticket and a Starbucks tumbler.
But Ford insisted that he loved the goodie bag.
“I was just grateful to have it. I’m still grateful!” he clarified. “I have that [Starbucks] cup in my room!”
As for his perfect attendance record, Ford said he doesn’t know how he did it.
“It’s just something … you just work,” he explained. “You got to feed these kids and put them through school. I never even thought of missing a day.”
Ford added that he is still in disbelief of all the attention and generosity people have shown.
“Thank you, thank you everybody. I just want to tell everybody out there, thank you for every cent,” he gushed.
“It’s just a dream come true, it’s just a whirlwind of love,” Ford said. “Spread the love, ‘cause every day you need it.”
